3 Reasons to Visit the Lakes in 2018

March 27, 2018

If you’re planning a staycation or even just a short trip away this year, there are so many great parts of the UK to explore if you haven’t yet. Britain is full of areas of natural beauty, coastlines, national parks, and so much to see and do. But with so many great spots to visit, our number one choice would have to be the Lake District.

The area has so much to offer, from nature to culture, and with a great deal of history. The Lake District was even awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 2017, following a campaign from locals to recognise the area. If you still need convincing, then here are three of our top reasons why we think you should pay the Lake District a visit in 2018.

The Natural Beauty

There can be no denying that the Lake District is one of the most beautiful areas around us here in Britain, and the beautiful scenery is one of the things that draws people to the Lake District time and time again.

It would take years to discover all the beauty spots in the Lakes, and if you are a fan of walking there are literally hundreds of routes that you can take up the fells to take in the spectacular views on offer. The Walk Lakes website has a great selection of walks for you to browse, which are all rated for difficulty and a number of other factors including how boggy they are.

The Lake District has influenced a great number of artists, writers and poets over the years, from William Wordsworth to Beatrix Potter, and if you are in any way artistically inclined then you should definitely start planning your visit. These days the area is very popular with photographers, so if you need any inspiration for your trip you won’t struggle to find plenty. The Lakelanders Instagram page is a hub of local photographers and is a great place to start.

The Accommodation

Whether you like a touch of luxury or you’re more into getting closer to nature, there’s something for everybody in the Lakes. Keen outdoor enthusiasts often enjoy a spot of wild camping, which is generally accepted in the Lake District so long as you are not pitching up in somebody’s field.

For something much more comfortable and luxurious, there are a number of beautiful country house hotels such as Broadoaks near Windermere. This beautiful hotel is the perfect spot to enjoy a little peace and tranquillity, and truly unwind. Even the building itself is beautiful, with ingle nook fireplaces and period furniture, and views out into the beauty of the surrounding Lake District.

The activities

There is no shortage of things to do in the Lake District, so you’ll have plenty to be getting on with during your stay. Why not plan a trip to the Theatre by the Lake to watch a play? Or a trip to the Wordsworth Museum, so you can truly get a feel for what shaped Wordsworth’s life. Dare-devils might want to head to Honister for the Via Ferrata, which uses the original miners track up Fleetwith Pike!

Whatever you’re into, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, and there’s plenty for all the family in the Lakes.
